Ex-Barcelona player Dani Alves was sentenced to prison for rape: in the colony they are afraid that he will commit suicide

The prison where Alves is being held has introduced a special protocol because the administration is concerned about his condition.

The court found former Barcelona and Brazil defender Dani Alves guilty of rape. The football player was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison.

What did Dani Alves do?

Charges were brought against Alves in January 2023. The 23-year-old said she met the footballer at the Sutton nightclub during the Christmas holidays in Barcelona. Later, according to the victim, whose name was not disclosed, the player began to harass her. The girl said that Alves ignored her refusal and raped her.

On January 20, 2023, Dani was arrested by court order and was denied bail. He denied the victim’s allegations and claimed that he had consensual sex with the girl.

As a result, the consideration of the case was delayed. The defense tried to challenge the accusations against the football player, but in their speeches the lawyers reported conflicting information, which significantly aggravated Alves’ situation.

Initially, prosecutors demanded a 12-year prison sentence for the suspect and compensation to the victim in the amount of 150 thousand euros. However, the court made a different decision: now one of the most titled football players in the world will have to spend 4 years and 6 months in prison.

The maximum possible sentence for such a crime is 15 years, while in accordance with the law on sexual consent, which was adopted in Spain in 2023, liability is provided for a wide range of offenses — from insults on the Internet to rape itself.

As part of the Spanish club, Alves became a six-time champion of Spain, and also won the Spanish Cup and Super Cup four times and the Champions League three times. In his career, he managed to play for such teams as Sevilla, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazilian Bahia and Sao Paulo.

The publication RMC Sport, citing sources in the prison where Alves was kept all these months, reported that the football player was in a depressed emotional state. It is alleged that because of this, the management of the institution was even forced to introduce an “anti-suicide plan”. This information was confirmed in the Fiesta television program, which published an excerpt from a conversation with Dani’s former cellmate. The prisoner said that because of the trial, the athlete fell into depression and the administration was forced to “take extreme measures.”
